Bear Down Tribute Takes on Life of its Own
Pictured above are George McKemey's (Connor's Dad) Troop in Iraq proudly displaying the Bear Down tribute on their helmets

January 21, 2009. When Connor's lacrosse team, the South Charlotte Cyclones decided to dedicate the '09 season to him by wearing BEAR DOWN stickers on their helmet they had no idea how far reaching the idea would carry. Once the tribute to Connor was published on their site, the Cyclones began to receive numerous calls and emails requesting the stickers for their own team to wear. Most notably was an email Cyclone Head Coach, Michael Desmond, received from US Marine Colonel John Julian that read: "Just wanted to let you know that we here in Iraq continue to stay current on the progress of Karin and Connor McKemey. George was the Executive Officer for us here at CJ 1/4/8. As we in the military will never leave our fallen soldiers behind. Connor is one of our own who we will not forget and will always be there for. Your reminder hits home to us here. We continue to conquer many challenges even though there are still many in front of us. We will move forward with great determination and "Bear Down" and persevere over terrorism and Iraq will become a stable democracy. How can we here at CJ 1/4/8 get some of those stickers as we would like to show our support to Connor?" The BEAR DOWN stickers were sent to the Colonel last week and should arrive soon for the soldiers. "The military is the ultimate team in terms of perseverance, teamwork and trust, we are honored that they requested the stickers. We had no idea this would have an effect on anyone outside our team, we really just wanted to keep Connor in our thoughts but the calls and email requests have continued so we have decided to help the family by selling the stickers and donating the proceeds to the McKemeys" added Coach Desmond. In addition to the helmet stickers, BEAR DOWN car magnets, t-shirts, and hats will be on sale at local lacrosse retailer, the Lax Zone Charlotte and they will also be available on-line at Bear Down Store Now Open
